The Royal New Zealand Ballet's Meridian Season of Angelina Ballerina's Big Audition is a ballet that needs to be judged by the reception it receives from its target audience - which was a warm welcome.
Angelina Ballerina, the star of popular children's books and animated television series, entertained Rotorua audiences at the Civic Theatre yesterday afternoon. There were many eager children (and their parents) who appeared to be excited by what was happening on stage.
There were ballerinas dressed in mouse costumes, amazing props and backdrops, beautiful outfits and impressive dancing.
Designed with the youngest audience in mind, this charming ballet provides the perfect treat for children from age 2. The 75-minute performance (including a 20-minute interval) featured ballet, hip-hop, contemporary dance and tap dancing.
Children in the audience were dressed in their own ballerina outfits and clapped along with the show while asking their mums many questions. It was obvious the mums were fans too - with many being heard telling their young ones about the story told by the show.
