Sections of the Whakatāne District Council's Pikowai campground will be closed from early-March to mid-April to allow a number of significant upgrading projects to be completed.
Funded equally by the council and a $136,000 grant from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment's Tourism Infrastructure Fund, a number of upgradeshave already been undertaken.
Upgrades include the installation of new sewerage evaporation fields and fencing and replacement of the southern boundary fence. Roading improvements within the campground are also under way.
The partial closure next month will allow the progressive upgrading of both ablution blocks, and further roading and water point improvements.
The closure will start at the western end of the campground on March 1 and move to eastern end of the facility by March 22. The work is expected to be completed by April 18, prior to the Easter weekend.
