If you are interested in traditional dance you might like to catch up with the Auckland Morris Dance troupe currently performing in Rotorua.
The New Zealand Morris Dancing Tour 2013 begins with a performance at the City Focus today at noon. Their last performance in Rotorua will be at Te Amorangi Museum on Sunday.
Trisha Price, Scribe from the City of Auckland Morris Dancers, said different villages in England had their own style of dance, ranging from the elegant, flowing dances of the Cotswolds to the more vigorous, stick clashing dances from the Welsh border regions.
Morris Dancing began many centuries ago and was performed at seasonal rituals to ensure the continuing fertility of the land, she said.
New Zealand Morris Dancers tour the country each year and get together with dancers from overseas to continue the tradition, Mrs Price said.
