Staff at Rotorua McDonald's restaurants are getting into the festive spirit by collecting Christmas presents to give to families at the Waiariki Women's Refuge.
McDonald's franchise owner Linley Parry said she asked all of her 200 staff members if they would like to contribute and received a positive response.
"When I mentioned
the idea they all got over-the-top excited and enthusiastic," Mrs Parry said.
Staff at each branch would buy presents for different family members.
The staff at the Fairy Springs McDonald's would buy presents for "Mummies", Tutanekai St and Te Ngae Rd restaurants would buy gifts for boys and Fenton St McDonald's would buy for girls, Mrs Parry said.
They hoped to have all the presents collected by November 12, followed by a staff mufti day on November 20 and a presentation of the gifts by November 23 in time for White Ribbon Day - an international day for the elimination of violence against women on November 25.
Women's Refuge child advocate Miriama Roberts said the gifts from the staff at McDonald's was a positive gesture.
"I think it is a bonus for all the children affected by domestic or family violence to have the opportunity to receive gifts," she said.
