With the hottest November recorded in more than 35 years and an early summer predicted, Rotorua could be in for some more hot weather.
It was a record month for the city with November recording the highest mean maximum temperature in more than 35 years.
The average temperature for the month was
15.4C - a degree warmer than normal at this time of year.
The city hasn't seen a temperature that high since 1972 when it was measured at 16.2C.
Rotorua weatherman Brian Holden said it had been a record November for many parts of New Zealand.
"It's been a very warm November," he said.
Mr Holden said it had not only been warm, but also quite dry compared to past Novembers.
The city only experienced 11 days of rain with 71.1mm falling over the whole month.
The normal rainfall for the month usually sits at about 131mm.
Mr Holden said while he couldn't predict what was in store for the coming summer months, the Niwa (National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research) seasonal climate outlook said there could be an early summer with temperatures likely or very likely to be above average for this time of year across the whole country.
NIWA's predictions also suggest rainfall will be normal.
