The 2010 Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori (the Maori Language Commission) national awards ceremony will be held in Rotorua this weekend.
The awards evening is part of a wider Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori national language event called Huia Te Reo and is on at the Energy
Events Centre this Saturday, October 9.
The commission's chief executive, Glenis Philip-Barbara, said 26 finalists in 13 categories had been identified from around New Zealand - from Auckland to Greymouth.
"The way in which our nation is embracing te reo Maori is heartening and these finalists exemplify the capacity and generosity of spirit that is alive and well in Aotearoa," Mrs Philip-Barbara said.
"We received a number of high-calibre entries this year and continue to be impressed by the range of initiatives showcasing creativity and innovation in Maori language promotion and revitalisation."
