Glo Festival's success will see it return

Summer Fiesta at the Rotorua Night Market

The annual Glo Festival will return to Rotorua at the end of 2014 after being labelled a success for the second straight year.

The three-day festival came to a close last night during the Summer Fiesta at the Night Market event in Tutanekai St.

Rotorua District Council major events co-ordinator Kylie Lang said the festival would return in a year. "We have had similar numbers from last year and received good feedback so we will definitely hold it again."

The Summer Fiesta at the Night Market marking the end of the festival attracted plenty of families and visitors.

The event included the usual goods and food stalls at the Rotorua Night Market plus a bubble machine for the kids, a photo booth, and a ride called the Fishpipe.

Ms Lang said the New Year festival was an important one for Rotorua. "It gives people something to do and can be part of their holiday."

She said the fine weather during the past three days had helped a lot in bringing people to the Glo Festival's three main events.

About 12,000 people had attended the Party in the Park on Tuesday night, the festival's feature event.

Thousands of others had also attended the Summer Fiesta yesterday and Wednesday's First Big Brunch.

The Glo Festival has run for two years in Rotorua, replacing the old Lakefront Mardi Gras event.
