Rotorua MP Todd McClay is encouraging local organisations, which are developing initiatives that increase the re-use, recycling or recovery of waste material, to apply for the Waste Minimisation Fund.
"It's a chance for organisations with an innovative project to apply for support from the Government to give their project a
kick start," Mr McClay said.
He said Rotorua had a proud record of waste minimisation efforts with initiatives like the Scion Waste 2 Gold project, the Rotoma Sewerage Scheme, the Maketu Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Rotorua District Council's expanded Recycling Centre.
"In particular, Waste 2 Gold is a prime example of a successful local waste-minimisation project having received $1 million over two years under the Waste Minimisation Fund; the largest grant received under the fund to date.
"If successful, this project could see thousands of tonnes of biosolid waste going to landfill each year removed and, in terms of cost reduction and value creation, benefit the community by about $4 million a year," Mr McClay said.
