Dive Squad arrives to join search for person missing on Lake Rotoiti

The Police National Dive Squad has arrived from Wellington to help in the search for a person missing on Lake Rotoiti.

Police confirmed the shoreline and on-water search was continuing for a person who apparently "went under" about 3.45pm yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said the dive squad had driven up from Wellington, arriving early this afternoon.

Rotorua police Search and Rescue Squad's Constable John Fredericksen told the Rotorua Daily Post he planned to speak to the person's family this morning to "ascertain whether they've advised all the people they need to".

He said he had visited the family on Monday morning to "talk some things through" with them. He has not returned calls afternoon.

Mr Frederickson said they were still undertaking a search and rescue rather than a recovery operation.

While police confirmed the missing person was an adult, Mr Frederickson would not confirm their gender or what activity they were doing on the lake when they disappeared.
