Everyone eating dinner at Eat Streat on Saturday should be in the mood for romance - the only lighting they will have is by candlelight.
Rotorua residents will have the opportunity to take part in Earth Hour while dining at Eat Streat.
The aim of Earth Hour is to get
as many people as possible to switch off their lights for an hour from 8.30pm on March 28.
Last year, Christchurch was the only partner city in New Zealand which took part in the event.
This year, 36 towns and cities have signed up - and Rotorua District Council is one of them.
Rotorua's Eat Streat is also behind the initiative and to take part, the restaurants are offering a candle lit dining experience.
Mac's Steak House owner Bob Macfarlane said all the Eat Streat restaurants were behind the initiative. "We were approached by the council," he said.
"But everyone here wants to get behind it."
Mr Macfarlane said it was a good cause to get involved with.
"There is a growing need to look after the environment and everyone is becoming more conscious about it."
Frontline staff at all Eat Streat restaurants will also be wearing Earth Hour T-shirts.
"People in Rotorua are really good at getting involved," Mr Macfarlane said.
"I think everyone will enjoy it and will know that they are doing it for a good cause."
Rotorua District Council business manager Kerry Starling said it was great to be able to take part in the event.
"We are just trying to raise awareness and this is one way we can do that."
He wants to encourage other people to take part in the event.
As the clock ticks down to Earth Hour, one lucky Kiwi could win a new Toyota Prius.
A $46,490 black Prius, with the Earth Hour logo, will be won in a draw from those who enter at www.earthhour.org/newzealand. By entering, participants will also sign up to Earth Hour.
The competition closes at 8.30pm on Saturday, March 28 and the winner will be announced on TV3 the following week.
DID YOU KNOW? Switching off your lights for one hour will save you about 40 cents.
By switching all your lightbulbs to energy saving bulbs you will save up to $3200 over the lifetime of the bulb.
