An overseas hiker was airlifted off the Tongariro Crossing yesterday after falling and injuring his leg.
Ambulance received a call from the 34 year-old who was unable to walk and the Rotorua based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was sent out at about 6pm.
The helicopter was able to locate the man
near the Emerald Lakes portion of the track and and provide medical assistance.
He was then airlifted to Rotorua Hospital in a comfortable condition.
