Applications to join the Rotorua District Council's Youth Council close on Monday.
Applications to join the Rotorua District Council's Youth Council close on Monday.
Rotorua teenagers interested in applying to be a Rotorua District Youth Councillor for 2014 only have until Monday to get their applications in.
The youth council meets fortnightly to discuss current youth issues, learn about local government and decision-making, get involved in the community and give Rotorua youth a voice.
Youth councillors also support and organise youth events and activities and participate in various local and national initiatives.
Rotorua District Council youth projects officer Jill Campbell said submissions for the 2014 council had been slow and she hoped more young people would put their names forward before next week's closing date.
"The 2014 youth council is going to have a lot more interaction with the mayor and councillors. We're fortunate to have former youth councillor and recent district councillor Tania Tapsell with a genuine interest in having the youth voice heard."
Mrs Campbell said youth councillors were expected to be able to problem-solve, work well in a team, have a keen interest in civic duty, be prepared to discuss issues affecting Rotorua's young people, be good listeners and have a network of peers to share information with. She said they also had a lot of fun at the same time.
The Rotorua District Youth Council will meet every second Tuesday during 2014, as well as attend initial training between February 7 and 9.
The last day for applications is Monday December 2 at 5pm. Fourteen youth councillors will be selected.
