American Idol: Rotorua divided on Lauren and Scotty

Opinion is divided among people in the Rotorua music industry and those on the street as to who will be the next American Idol.
Some say it will be 16-year-old Lauren Alaina while others think 17-year-old Scotty McCreery will take the title.
Long-time Rotorua singer Evelyn Falconer said she was surprised that Lauren and Scotty were in the final as she thought rocker James Durbin would have won the TV singing competition.
"He just had so much energy and really good pitch."
But Mrs Falconer said her pick for American Idol out of Lauren and Scotty would be Lauren.
"She has got a more versatile voice. Out of those two she is the one who has got wider appeal ... She is totally committed to the performance. She doesn't hold back and gives it 100 per cent."
Rotorua's Haley Campbell said it was difficult to pick who would win as the pair were quite similar.
Two years ago Miss Campbell won a trip to Los Angeles to go to the final of season nine of American Idol, between Adam Lambert and Kris Allen.
She said she had not been following this season as closely as previous seasons but said she would like Lauren to win.
"She has got an awesome voice."
Rotorua singer/guitarist and musical director Richard Anaru said he was a fan of Scotty and thought he should win.
"I think he has got star written all over him. He has got all the moves. He can really perform. He has got a real good stage presence about him. I think Scotty is the full package."
Although the winner will be announced in America on Thursday (NZT), New Zealanders will have to wait until Friday night to find out who will be the next American Idol.
The three-hour final screens on TV2 on Friday from 7.30pm.
