DINING: Solace Cafe & Restaurant offers tasty meals and great service. PHOTO/ BEN FRASER

DINING: Solace Cafe & Restaurant offers tasty meals and great service. PHOTO/ BEN FRASER

We were attracted by the bright green and orange chairs in the outdoor dining area and the airiness inside the restaurant.

The cafe and restaurant offers a breakfast, all day meals and lunch, dinner and dessert menu. They also have a separate children's menu to cater for young diners' tastes.

The drinks:

Solace has an extensive wine, beer and drink lists which included light alcohol wines and Belgian fruit beers. My glass of Stoneleigh Marlborough Savignon Blanc had a crispness to it with lightly pungent fruit flavours. My 4-year-old fellow diner thoroughly enjoyed his apple juice.

The food:

Children can order a main meal, drink and dessert from the kids menu as a combo deal. The children's size carbonara fettuccine was a generous helping of pasta, bacon, cheese in a creamy sauce. I ordered a main size entree meal of the salt and pepper squid rings glazed in orange and chilli on a crisp Asian-style slaw. The squid rings were perfectly balanced by crunchy noodles and the slaw salad, that had a creamy but not overpowering dressing.

The icecream sundae the child ordered was a suitable size to follow a heavy meal served with chocolate sauce, sprinkles and a wafer.

The service:

The wait staff were very attentive, and friendly, and regularly checked in with us to see if there was anything else we needed. They were also quite patient to wait for the 4-year-old to decide what he felt like eating and timed our meals to coincide perfectly.

The regular restaurant menu:

Offers a wide selection of starters, entrees and mains. The carnivore is well catered for with a choice of a venison rack, lamb, eye fillet and fish, with a variety of vegetarian meals on offer as well. Classic desserts are served such as panna cotta, apple and berry crumble, banana split alongside a few in-house sweet creations.

Prices are reasonable and great value for your dollar. Their breakfast and lunch menu prices were under $20, with mains ranging from $29-$36.

Overall:

It was a pleasant dining experience with friendly staff, and the meals left us more than satisfied.
