Young couple win the HITS $5k Mitre 10 Mega Kitchen Makeover

A 1980s kitchen is set to be revamped thanks to the HITS $5k Mitre 10 Mega Kitchen Makeover promotion.

Kat Graham and her husband Jed were one of five finalists selected from more than 400 entries and yesterday were revealed as the winners.

"We didn't think we were going to win, so didn't put a lot of thought into it," she said. "You have dreams of what you think you would do, so we will have to have some serious talks about it now."

The Hits hosts Adam and Megan broadcast live at Mitre 10 Mega in Napier yesterday with the finalists. The finalists were tasked with picking one of five pots - the winner being the one to pick the kitchenware with a golden spoon underneath.

They have been in their Napier house for three years and believed the kitchen had not been renovated since it was built in 1980.

Without the prize, Kat said they would have waited a few more years to save money for the project.

"It definitely helps us out in the long run being able to get the kitchen we want now rather than have to wait."

She was unsure when they were going to start renovating, but are going to talk to the team at Mitre 10 Mega to discuss their options.

The competition has been running since July 4.
