GOOD CAUSE: Pediatrician Sarah Currie (left); Georgia Miller of Woodford House, patient Nathaniel Lana, 6 and Belinda Averill of Woodford House celebrate the donation.
Woodford House has been raising money from school socials for the Children's ward at Hawke's Bay Hospital for the past seven years.
This year was no different, with its donation of $1900 used to purchase a transcutaneous bilirubin monitor, which will replace the heel prick babies receive at birth.
The
meterreads through the skin instead of samples of blood.
The cause is one that is very close to the heart of teacher, Belinda Averill, whose 15-year-old daughter, Hannah, was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease several years ago.
Each year, the money has been used to improve the hospital and its services, from building a baby changing room to purchasing equipment for newborns.
