A man suspected of using a foot-camera to film up the skirts of women at the busy Haumoana Market on Sunday continues to elude police, who believe he fled the venue as soon as his voyeurism was noticed.
Police Eastern District communications manager Kris McGehan said the three officers at
the market at Memorial Park, Haumoana, searched for the man, using a description provided by Napier woman Colleen Gray.
They did a "comprehensive search", including surrounding carparks around the park where an estimated 15,000 people crowded the annual market. Police also asked stallholders if they had seen the man, but were unable to find the suspect, Ms McGehan said yesterday.
Mrs Gray told Hawke's Bay Today she noticed the camera when she stepped back on the man while she was at a stall. The camera was attached to the laces of his shoe, she said.
Ms McGehan said: "We believe he probably left the site after she spoke to him."
