Bob Jones got a rude shock, waking up to find his car tyres slashed yesterday morning.

He was not the only one who had a bad start to his day, thanks to a young man who allegedly went on a tyre slashing spree.

Mr Jones, who owns the Sylvan Lodge, said three staff cars were attacked on Sylvan Rd overnight. Two of the cars belong to him and one to his son-in-law, Karim Brown. Mr Jones' vehicles had two tyres slashed and Mr Brown's one.

The three vehicles were parked on the street because the motel was fully booked, thanks to a Wellington softball team attending the annual end-of-season Fun in the Sun tournament.

Around the corner in Jervois St, Kylie Cheer had two tyres on a vehicle deflated which she said was "very annoying".

"It's obviously someone wandering around with nothing better to do," she said.

However, car owners near the lodge will be happier now that police have made an arrest.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with three counts of wilful damage and possession of an offensive weapon. Police said he was apprehended after allegedly slashing a number of car tyres at Karamu Holden in Karamu Rd.
