Sun set to reign for remainder of week

The start of the last month of autumn is set to be more like the start of the last day of spring across Hawke's Bay with the sun set to reign - until the weekend when that reign is forecast to turn to rain.

While showers were expected to cross the region today, things are set to begin clearing tomorrow and Wednesday's forecast is more sunshine and 17C.

Thursday, the first day of May, is looking to hit a high of 19C accompanied by sunny skies and light winds.

The Metservice long-range forecast shows that Friday will deliver the same until things begin to turn more autumnal for the weekend and into early next week.

A Metservice spokesperson said rain is on the forecast for next Saturday with passing showers set to stick around until the following Tuesday.

Temperatures, however, will remain about 19C and 20C.

NIWA is predicting that May and the first month of winter in June are unlikely to throw up too many surprises.

Temperatures are most likely (45 per cent chance) to be in the near-average range, while rainfall totals are most likely (40 per cent chance) to also be in the near-normal range.

Soil moisture levels and river flows are likely to be in the near-normal or below-normal range.
