Napier has joined 200 other cities around the world as an International Safe Community.
The city was accredited in September by the World Health Organisation under the International Safe Communities programme. Napier submitted its 157-page application earlier this year and was visited by reviewers in August.
Napier has been following the model since 2007, which involves encouraging collaboration between agencies to prevent crime and injuries. It is the 17th New Zealand city to be accredited.
