The Cape Coast community is so impressed with the new national cycleway section that runs from Haumoana through Te Awanga to Clifton that it has invited people from across Hawke's Bay to an Open Ride family fun day this Sunday.
The Cape Coast Community group has planned a free fun-filled day
including buskers, fire-eaters, jugglers, unicyclists, a bi-plane flyover and other entertainment along the cycle way.
The ride, the week after the official opening of the TSB Bridge and cycleway section, will start from the carpark on the Haumoana side of the Black Bridge off Mill Rd at 11am.
After a blessing from local tangata whenua and a welcome from Haumoana's King Andy the procession will be led by a bagpiper, with walkers and cyclists encouraged to take things at their own pace.
There will be hop-on points to join the ride from the Haumoana Domain, the Haumoana free camping area or opposite Clearview winery.
Vehicles can be parked at Black Bridge and at Clifton Station paddock with a bus service from Gannet Safaris roving in-between.
All are welcome to join Art Deco Bikes, Frocks on Bikes, schools, kindergartens, clubs, marae and other community groups as they "bike, walk, skip, run or stroll" along the track.
There will be stalls, mobile coffee outlets, refreshments provided by local businesses and water and sun block stops at key points along the track.
The Haumoana Toy Library and Haumoana Playcentre will provide a play area and face painting for young children en route, and Tree's for Hawke's Bay and the Cancer Society are among those providing stands.
The total distance of the Open Ride is 8.5km.
