Hastings Girls' High School Year 9 students were pegging their school red this week in preparation for a world record attempt and Sir Peter Blake Trust Leadership Week.
The trust, in conjunction with Westpac New Zealand, are raising awareness for the annual Leadership Week by trying to beat the world record
for the highest number of socks pegged on a clothesline.
Currently held by Germany with 2324.08 metres of socks, the New Zealand initiative is pegging the iconic Sir Peter Blake lucky red socks at 17 schools throughout the country and joining them all together on Thursday at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
Hastings Girls' High School were the Hawke's Bay contingent of the attempt, and pegged 500 socks to the line.
Westpac New Zealand Hastings branch manager, Andrew Sanders, said the exercise wasn't all about laundry though, as the students were addressed by local business owner Christine Simpkin, of Flowers by Chilton, who gave an inspirational speech about leadership and education.
Sir Peter Blake Trust Leadership Week runs from July 1 to July 8, with this year's theme being "Great NZ Teams".
