The girls didn't know one another six months ago but soon bonded over a shared love of music.
"They asked if anyone was interested in joining a rock band and working with Jason Alexander from Naked Gun," Danielle said.
"We all put our hands up and got put together. It's worked out quite well because we're all really good friends now."
The group performed before a live audience at the regional Smokefreerockquest final and an Amnesty International Freedom Fest event in July.
"It was really cool. It's fun, and that's what we aim for."
They quintet choose to play original material as much as possible.
"We sit down and write during band practice. We all do it together - we help each other out."
While love songs are "typically the easiest to write", the band only had a couple of them. "We also have a few inspirational songs about giving everything a try."
Founders Theatre in Hamilton provides a backdrop for the biggest youth music event of the year on September 22, when eight High School bands take the stage.
Seven hundred acts from across New Zealand battled it out in 25 regional finals from May through to August, with finalists announced last month.
Judges Petrina George from APRA, Jeff Newton from New Zealand on Air and Jaden Parkes from Sony Music said this year's bands set the bar high.
With dedication, all finalists had the chance to succeed.
"It depends on how much they want it and how much work they are prepared to put in," Mr Parkes said. "They were all chosen because we thought they had potential to move on and do more with their music."
