“The Ranger drove up alongside the Hilux and travelled side-by-side down the road before the Ranger rammed the side of the Hilux, causing it to veer off of the road,” the spokesperson said.
“The Hilux became airborne and rolled, coming to a stop in the front garden of a residential address.”
“The Ranger continued driving down Meeanee Rd before turning onto King St.”
Police said no arrests had been made as of today, but they were following positive lines of inquiry to find the occupants of the Ford Ranger.
“If you have any information which may assist police with inquiries, including CCTV or dashcam footage around the Meeanee Rd and King St area from about 6.25pm on February 5, please share it with police via 105 and reference file number 230206/2199.”
Meanwhile, a section of Hawke’s Bay Expressway near Taradale was closed briefly after a crash on Wednesday.
A police statement said emergency services were responding to a multiple-vehicle crash which happened near the Meeanee Rd off-ramp around 1pm.
St John said they sent one rapid response vehicle and one ambulance. One person in a moderate condition was taken to Hawke’s Bay Hospital via ambulance.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said on social media the road near the intersection with Meeanee Rd, which closed at 1.15pm, had reopened at 1.40pm.
Meanwhile, inquiries were ongoing to find the driver of another vehicle that crashed in Hastings late on Monday.
The police spokesperson said police were called to a crash between a vehicle and a parked vehicle on St Aubyn St West about 10.05pm.
No injuries were reported, and it appeared the occupants had left the scene before police arrived.
