NATALIE GAULD
It takes a special person to become a foster parent, especially if the child has disabilities.
If you've ever wondered why, just turn to page 14 and read about the sacrifices and lengths some foster parents go to for their extended families.
We are running their stories ahead of the IHC
Foster Care Awareness Week from November 2-8.
When you read these stories, you will know that caregivers really love these kids and make them part of their family.
One family even moved home to cater for their foster child's needs.
IHC is looking for foster carers who will consider making a long-term commitment to a child.
They understand that people might feel daunted by the challenge but there are other forms of care including respite or shared care.
Thumbs up: To the businesses and council workers involved in the Dickens Street thank-you this week (report page two).
Council workers often cop a lot of flak and battle stereotypes about not being too fast or too conscientious.
Napier businesses appreciated the work done in their street and the efficiency and courtesy of the council crew.
Everyone appreciates a word of thanks and the spread was enjoyed by all accounts.
