MANDY SMITH
It'll be a cool summer for Napier Central School principal Ian Hall.
Mr Hall, described by staff as a "mild-mannered man", pledged to undergo a No. 2 shave to help the school raise funds at its biannual fair on Saturday.
"I never agreed to have it completely shaved because I didn't
want to look like Yul Brunner," he said.
Before the big event, Mr Hall's wife, Sandi, and son Hamish, nine, coaxed him into spraypainting and gelling his locks to give pupils an extra kick.
Did he like his new do?
"I think it's great, but I'm not going to tell the kids that," he said.
He remained non-committal about keeping his crewcut.
The total amount raised at the event, which also featured stalls and entertainers such as six-year-old dancer Sebastian Ayson-McFarlane, were as yet unknown, but Mr Hall expected close to $17,000.
