Many people who go to popular Hastings bar the Common Room can expect something a little different this Thursday evening.

Three different actors in their early 20s will perform three different monologues in the production titled A Funny Femme Affair.

Two of the theatrical pieces are extracts from a very well-known Australian Comedy Bombshells. The third is a brief forerunner of a full-length one-woman show, written and performed by Brigid McVeigh herself.

Organiser and mentor Ken Keys said the young actors ooze talent and the performance will be extremely entertaining.

"It's what I would call a serendipitous project, because I was working with Brigid on a series of comical monologues, in which she does very good impersonations.

"We decided to start off with a production in the Common Room because it's intimate and casual.

"While we were planning this, Mollie and Bridie appeared on the scene and started doing scenes from Bombshells by Joanna Murray-Smith. They're having fun - I'm having fun, then I thought, why not join the three and show people exactly what we're doing."

Keys said the performance would begin with two Bombshell extracts performed by Bridie Thomson and Mollie John.

Keys said one of the actors would perform a bridal scene-portraying a delirious bride who has found her dream partner, but the situation doesn't quite work according to plan.

In a third performance, McVeigh would also impersonate well-known New Zealand political figures that many people would know.

"There are two very well known ex-Prime Ministers and there is a royal figure from an area of Buckingham Palace."

Keys said the actors were also very dedicated to their performance with Mollie John travelling between her homeland Wales and New Zealand to perform.

John was a voice coach for Under Milk Wood (at the age of 14) Fiddler on the Roof, The Tempest, The Crucible and Chicago.

Bridie Thomson also had an experienced background in the arts, with productions including King versus Queen One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Brigid McVeigh had performed in a number of festivals including the Wellington Fringe Festival, Adelaide Festival and the Melbourne and Auckland Comedy Festivals.

The young performers will entertain audiences at The Common Room on Thursday, July 12 at 7.30pm and 6pm on Sunday, July 15 with tickets only $10.
