The cult-like following of the sign-dancing $3 Big Mac Guy keeps growing across Hawke's Bay, with fans not being able to get enough of the energetic sensation.
Paora Pohatu, aka the Big Mac Guy or BMG, has been revolutionising sandwich board advertising at the Hastings roundabout near his
work, out-shining opposition and attracting a large fan base.
The Facebook page he made for himself has now garnered more than 1150 "likes", a Youtube clip of him doing his thing has had more than 1300 views and he said he is being treated like a "celebrity".
"Classic Hits, they mentioned me about how good I was, how many compliments I had had and how I was a bit of a hit," the 29-year-old said.
"I'm now up to 1200-and-something hits on Youtube, it's just exploding.
"It's just astounding how many people have come in off the street and told me ... It's just overload of great positive response, it's just amazing what people have said on my comments."
Franchisee of the Hastings business, Marcus Pohio, likened the BMG persona to "Slim Shady" and said the public's response to him had been overwhelming.
"Everybody around here thinks it's great and are just loving him," he said.
"He seems to be loving the fact that people are supporting him and loves getting out there and shaking his thing."
Mr Pohio said he was impressed with the positive comments of support that had been flooding BMG's Facebook page.
The comments praised Mr Pohatu's energetic dance techniques and the entertainment he brought to the city.
"You're awesome," said one. "You always make me smile when I see you out there busting your mean dance moves."
Mr Pohatu said one Flaxmere girl even told him the BMG had inspired her to perform, too.
"She told me the same, that 'your inspiration to go out there has now led me to be a singer'. So that's what the biggest bonus for me is, when I can do that sort of thing."
