The Papamoa Beach Surfcasting Club is up and running - in the best possible way.
Club members gathered for the first club outing at Harrison's Cut with Dan Hodgson having the honour of being the first member to catch a fish -a kahawai that was fittingly returned to the
ocean for good luck.
A good turnout of 23 surfcasters enjoyed a couple of hours being shown some of the basics of casting.
Club members exhibited various levels of casting expertise and this will be followed up, in the near future, with some lessons to smooth out some of the problems that some may have.
In the not too distant future, a team of top New Zealand casters will be visiting the Papamoa Beach Surfcasting Club to help sharpen up the casting skills of the members.
