Japanese Honda CBR600 rider Yoshihiro Kishimoto (Honda) will add sharp interest to this year's Cemetery Circuit motorcycle meeting.
The rider, unknown in New Zealand, started the email dialogue himself with Cemetery Circuit organisers and will be in Wanganui television crew and all, as is the Japanese way with their leading sports people.
Promoter Leighton Minnell yesterday reported full fields for the meeting with entries closed and few names are missing.
The new interest is the Japanese.
"He emailed me after seeing it [the Cemetery Circuit meeting] advertised on the net, came back to me later and told me he wanted to come out. He has experience in street racing," Minnell said.
And a good performer it seems. He won three races in the Japanese East Area Champion-ship on the Fuji Speedway through New Zealand's winter.
Aside from him and the fact that Brian Bernard is fielding only one bike this season, not much has changed in the fields listed yesterday.
F1 Supers will see the return of young Australian Gareth Jones (Yamaha) riding for local team owner Bernard, against multiple New Zealand Superbike champion, Hamilton's Andrew Stroud (Suzuki), and the Cemetery Circuit's No 1 in recent year's, Feilding's Craig Shirriffs who this year will be campaigning a Honda CBR1000R8 after being a Suzuki man.
The other international entered is Australian Joel Reed (Yamaha).
Other New Zealanders to watch include New Plymouth's Hayden Fitzgerald (Honda) and Hamilton's Jared Love (Suzuki).
In the 600 Supers, Jones (Yamaha), Kishimoto and the return of former Isle of Man TT winner, New Plymouth's Shaun Harris (Triumph), are the feature.
Palmerston North's Glen Williams, New Plymouth's Terry Fitzgerald and Jason Nairn, all on Suzuki SV 650s, lead the formula three field along with local riders such as Flea Willacy on his Honda RS125. Stacey Sellar returns to ride the Suzuki LCR of organiser Leighton Minnell. This year Minnell's regular passenger Louise Blythe will be swinging for Sellar.
Wanganui's Steve Bron heads the opposition, with the Lawrance Brothers (Anderson Yamaha) along with a large group of locals such as Darryl Dowman (DML Special), Adam Unsworth (Windle), Perry Lett (LCR), and the all-women teaming of Tracey Anderson and Kellie Minnell on their DMR Yamaha 600. With the pits moving back on to Taupo Quay this year, there will be no dirt section for the Super Motards. The leading name is world championship campaigner, an expat Kiwi now in the United States in Darryl Atkins.
Others include Auckland's Toby Summers (Yamaha), Stephen Briggs (KTM) and New Ply-mouth's Craig Flood (Aprilia).
