NETBALL: National high performance squad netball coach Annette Pearce, from Wanganui, has been awarded $10,000 for her work next year in the latest round of a record 100 Prime Minister's High Performance Coach Scholarships.
Former Wanganui rugby coach Bruce Hodder, who coached Northland this past season, was awarded $7500.
"The scholarships are a significant resource that ensures professional development opportunities are available for high performance coaches,Sports Minister Trevor Mallard said.
"Coaches play a critical, and too often criticised, role in the success of our athletes and sports teams. Investing in coaches is a smart way to enhance our top athletes of tomorrow."
The Government has committed over $1 million to the programme this year.
Meanwhile, Netball New Zealand has announced a better viewing deal with Television New Zealand. The coverage from next year includes all Silver Ferns tests and two games a week from the National Bank Cup competition ? as well as the semis and final.
