Whanganui choir joins organist for recital from great composers

YOUNG VOICES: The Schola Sacra Youth Chorus will perform a set of popular songs on the programme.

The Piggy Bach: Under Paris Skies organ recital at Christ Church in Wicksteed St on Saturday promises a full programme of seven works by Bach, Boellmann, Zipoli, Vivaldi and modern composer Naji Hakim.

The organist and musical director is Roy Tankersley, a graduate of Victoria University who completed his post-graduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music in London.

He has been involved in music education at secondary and tertiary levels for 40 years, performs on organ and harpsichord and has directed various choirs, including 10 years with the Wellington Bach Choir.

Also performing on the programme is the Schola Sacra Youth Chorus, made up of Hannah Boessenkool, Bethany Crosse, Melody Crosse, Solomon Crosse, Zoe Crosse, Rosabella Gregory, Alicia Laird, Naia Law, Conrad Vaatstra, Eden Vaatstra, Eloise Vaatstra, Leo Vaatstra Amelia Wylie, Graceyn Wylie and Jacob Wylie.

Led by conductor and pianist Lisa Boessenkool, the choir will perform a set of five songs starting with Under Paris Skies , lyrics by Kim Gannon and music by Herbert Giraud.

It will follow up with songs by Irving Berlin, Gilbert and Sullivan and Will Todd.

Roy Tankersley will end the programme with Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor .

Piggy Bach: Under Paris Skies organ recital - Roy Tankersley with The Schola Sacra Youth Chorus, 2pm Saturday, June 17, Christ Church, Wicksteed St. $25 adults, $20 Friends of the Organ members, children and students free.
