IT'S BEEN in place for only a matter of days, but the garden shed at the fledgling community garden in Aramoho has been all but destroyed by vandals.
The community garden was set up at Te Mana Park in Mitchell St in April this year and the shed was put in
place to provide storage for tools and give shelter to those working at the site.
Leanne Hiroti, the garden's project co-ordinator, said a concrete pad for the shed was poured last month and the shed erected on September 8.
"One of the locals noticed some minor damage to the shed a week ago, but on the weekend it was seriously damaged."
Ms Hiroti said they would be looking at repairing the shed and they believed the main frame was still able to be used.
She said those involved in the project would probably look at what potential problems were likely to occur in the future and may look to appoint a co-ordinator who would provide an on-going presence on-site.
Ms Hiroti is co-ordinating the "Grab a Bite that's Right" programme for the Whanganui Regional Primary Health Organisation.
The programme is aimed at encouraging the community to eat more fruit and vegetables and was the reason behind the garden at Te Mana Park.
"We'd like to get the shed fixed as soon as possible."
Despite this setback, Ms Hiroti said the gardens were producing "positive results".
