These guys really know how to toughen Up

Ninety students from 15 Wanganui district schools competed in the Toughen Up challenge at Mitre 10 MEGA on Saturday, September 13.

The challenge was a warm-up for the Mitre 10 Mega Tough Kid event to be held at Cooks Gardens on October 31.

Event manager Rachel O'Connor said the school teams competed in wheelbarrow races, apple bobbing, nail banging and target throwing races.

"Each team had an adult parent or teacher who had to sit in an ice bath until all team members had completed the challenges.

"They were there for five to 10 minutes depending on how fast the team was.

"Teams then had to rescue their adult to help them push a car across the finish line."

The winning team for each of the five rounds received a $100 Mitre 10 Mega voucher for their school.

The winners were St Georges School round one, St Johns Hill round two, Wanganui East round three, Waverley School round four and Brunswick School round five.

Ms O'Connor said this is the third year of the toughen up challenge and will be the fourth year of the Tough Kid challenge.

"I would like to thank Hayden and Sarah Gibson of Mitre 10 Mega for their ongoing support and commitment to the events" she said.
