A Wanganui woman was left lost for words after receiving a phone call from the producer of Missing Pieces - the television programme that brings lost families back together again.
Nicky Sikora, 45, said the producer told her she had 25-year-old twin sisters living in Auckland, and that they shared the same father.
It was the weirdest feeling, she said.
"This was just a month ago and it was so weird."
However, the news had an extra bizarre twist - Ms Sikora also has twin daughters aged 25, Holly and Shea, as well as 19-year-old Ruby and 12-year-old Grace. "Now there are twin sisters the same age as my Holly and Shea."
The Auckland twins, Laura and Sophie Langston, had decided to go to Missing Pieces to try to track down their father who had left their mother before they were born, Ms Sikora said.
Ms Sikora said the twins' mother was now in a rest home. "And my mum is in a rest home here in Wanganui suffering from dementia."
Even though her father left when she was just 12 months old, Ms Sikora had met up with him a couple of times while she was growing up. She described him as a ratbag and a rogue.
"But I was pretty shocked when the producer of the show told me that my father had died eight years ago in Nelson. I had no idea, which is why they looked for me because my sisters wanted to know if they had any family at all."
Following the format of the programme, presenter David Lomas came to Wanganui and filmed Ms Sikora watching the DVD of her twin sisters telling her they wanted to meet her. She was given a rental car to take her family to Auckland for the big "meet" in a park a few days later.
However, they could not all go because Shea and Ruby were overseas, Ms Sikora said.
The meeting was incredible, she said.
"Within minutes I just knew these girls. It was meant to be, it really was."
Her new sisters came to Wanganui for Easter and would return at Christmas. Everyone decided they would also all meet up for a weekend in June in Tauranga. This time the entire family was expected to attend, because Ms Sikora's other two daughters were coming back from overseas.
Although there had been a lot of laughter, there had been a lot of tears as well through their bonding, she said. "Well, we have all been neglected and now our mums are both in care so there's just us left."
The Missing Pieces episode featuring Ms Sikora and her sisters screens on Tuesday.
