The clean-up continues around Wanganui more than a week after the flood-swollen Whanganui River broke its banks.
The playground in Kowhai Park area has reopened. However, the Wanganui District Council says the park is not back to its normal state yet. Much silt remained on grassed areas and that could
not be removed or the areas resown until the silt had dried out.
Upstream of Aramoho Rail Bridge, work is continuing on cleaning up the riverbank and jetty at Upokongaro. Most of that work is being done by Horizons Regional Council.
The slipway at the Aramoho campground has been cleared and progress has been made clearing the riverbank around the Aramoho Rowing Club.
Work is due to start next month on clearing the huge amount of silt dumped in the Wharf St slipway at Castlecliff. All other slipways have been cleared. The council is warning motorists using rural roads to take care as many still carried a lot of silt and will have become slippery again after rain.
