Opera lovers - in finery including their favourite gumboots - are heading to a Kai Iwi bullring for a concert tonight.
Young country diva Hayley Sellars, 17, is set to sing at Lin Johnstone's Karamu property in Rangitatau East Rd. Extra seating was being installed to cope with demand. "We're expecting more people to just turn up," Sellars said. The important thing, she said, was that "people must wear flash or formal gear on their top half and they wear old gummies on their bottom half".
Sellars has pursued her dream of an opera career over the past year. In 2010 she broke her back in a horse accident and was in the Burwood Spinal Unit in Christchurch for eight weeks.
Since her accident she has become firmly focused on her singing future.
The bullring concert aims to raise funds for fees for her study in Wellington at Victoria University.
