They have also been involved with the international rallies in Palmerston North (1992), Christchurch (1996) and Invercargill (2006), and although they've missed a few in between, it's always been a family affair.
His two sons, from Palmerston North and Christchurch, are competing in the VCC Rally 2012 as well.
A farmer all his life, Mr Haycock purchased his own property 2km out of Bulls in the late 1970s, which up until 12 years ago was a dairy farm. It is now used for grazing heifers.
"Even at school, I always said I wanted to get a vintage car; it was just something that appealed to me," Mr Haycock said.
Along with the sedan, Mr Haycock owns a 1929 Chevrolet roadster, 1916 Chevrolet tourer, 1951 Peugeot 203 and 1972 Peugeot 404 diesel ute, which is believed to be the only such vehicle in the country.
All are registered and warranted.
"I can't see the point in having them just sitting in the shed," Mr Haycock said.
He has entered the 1916 Chevrolet in this year's rally.
It was discovered by his brother-in-law in Palmerston North, and belonged to an elderly lady, who was an antique clock collector, he said.
She denied it was there, more on the basis that she didn't want to part with it.
But when she died, Mr Haycock was able to buy the car in an estate sale in the mid-1980s.
