A man forced his partner against the wall by the neck and threatened to kill her, a court heard.
Fraser Watane pleaded guilty in Whanganui District Court to two charges of threatening to kill and two charges of common assault.
Police prosecutor Drew Morrison told the court on November 24 Watane spat in his partners face after the two became invovled in an argument.
Over the next few days Watane threatened to kill his partner twice. At one point trusting, his fingers under her neck forcing her aganist the wall.
Watane's lawyer Richard Leith said his client had taken steps to address his anger and had enrolled in a course that deals with domestic violence.
Judge Philip Crayton said that the matter must be taken very seriously especially considering the victim impact statement clearly showed the victim feared for her safety.
He sentenced Watane to four and a half months imprisonment.
