Live bonanza opens stage to one and all

Talk to Fordell resident Vince Leatherby and you cannot help but catch his contagious enthusiasm for supporting up-and-coming singing stars of all genres.

This Saturday, Fordell Hall will play host to a plethora of performers, ranging from novices to established entertainers , all of whom will take to the stage during what promises to be a fun, family day out.

Mr Leatherby, a veteran promoter/philanthropist, heads up the Whanganui Support Group.

It aims to showcase and mentor New Zealand's budding vocal talent, by creating an event where wannabes can step on stage for the first time and perform songs live.

The money raised at such events is donated to charities, so it is a win-win for everyone involved.

Guests for Saturday's event include the New Plymouth Traditional Club, jazz and blues singer Elaine Holden, Niall Corbett from Waitara and Monique Lilly, a 14-year-old rising star from Auckland.

In a tribute to the late Bill Reade, Mr Leatherby will also be releasing his ninth and final CD.

If ticket sales are anything to go by, the day should be a huge success, which is why Mr Leatherby is already planning to host further events, while promoting Fordell as a cool, country backdrop.

The show runs from 11am to 4.30pm with food and refreshments available and limited door sales.

Tickets are $5, while children's admission is free.
