Hylton to join the district health board

Stuart Hylton has been appointed to the Whanganui District Health Board.

The Minister of Health, Tony Ryall, made the appointment to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Michael Laws earlier this year.

Since late 2013, Mr Hylton has been the commissioner for the Wanganui District Council's district licensing committee, a statutory role created under the Sale and Supply of Liquor Act 2012.

Prior to this, Mr Hylton spent 31 years at Wanganui District Council, most recently as a senior policy advisor, with his initial qualifications and experience being in public and environmental health.

Mr Hylton said he was honoured by the confidence the Minister has shown to have in him and looks forward to being a part of the board.

"I feel delighted, and very privileged, to be appointed to the board. Being Wanganui born and bred, I am extremely excited about the opportunity and the challenges it will bring.

"I look forward to working with the WDHB, management and the community to meet the challenges, and opportunities, to deliver responsive services to enhance health outcomes for the district."

Whanganui District Health Board chair Dot McKinnon said Mr Hylton's skills and experience will be hugely valued by the WDHB now, and into the future.

"Mr Hylton's experience through his years with the Wanganui District Council, and in his current role as district licensing commissioner, will be of great benefit to this board. It really will strengthen the expertise we already have sitting around the table," Ms McKinnon said.
