Finn Johansson.
Finn Johansson releases the audio (July 11) and video (July 18) for Love Bomb.
After a seven inch acetate collaboration with Wellington songwriter Dick Whyte (What Kind Of Bird Am I), an invitation-only 48 hour songwriting/recording project for NZ Music Month (I Know Exactly How Big My Heart Is), and
live appearances with Wellington heroes ONONO and Emily Fairlight, songwriter and producer Finn Johansson is dropping the tune that people, when they talk to him after shows, rave about.
Love Bomb is evocative but not fancy, groovy, but not in a stupid way, achingly sad but not hopeless. Much of that is down to Johansson's new-found production partnership with Jono Nott (BROODS, ONONO, Hans Pucket).
Rounding out the personnel is Anita Clark (Motte, New Dawn), whose string arrangements feature on the track.
When not playing with his five-piece band, Johansson hits the road with a homemade bass synth that he plays with his toes, a midi controller, a guitar and a drum machine. He doesn't overdo the one man band thing though. He left the washboard and the old-timey carhorn at home.
In addition to framed, signed glamour shots, the Finn Johansson Merch Table will feature a Love Bomb Perfume, crafted by perfumist Nathan Taare. The scent is approved by Johansson and a single tear is mixed into every batch.
Finn appears at the Lucky Bar in Wilson St on Friday, July 20.
