Feilding power cut after transformer fire

Much of Feilding was without power this morning after a fire at a transformer in the town.

Powerco said 1300 customers were affected by the fire but power was restored to all but 85 by 6am.

The remaining households were expected to regain power by 11am.

The fault was caused by sparking at a terminal box, it said.

The Fire Service said the fire was easily controlled and was now out.

Powerco is New Zealand's second-largest electricity and gas company, with about 420,000 customers across the country.
