Chad Chambers wore white gummies, sang like an angel and took away the $10,000 prize money on Maori Television's Homai Te PakiPaki karaoke programme last Friday night in Auckland.
Mr Chambers, from Marton, was still in Auckland yesterday fielding offers of gigs all over the country.
He said he was
"stoked" to be declared the winner. "I so love singing... it's kind of like a part of me all the time."
The 27-year-old father-of-one sang Rod Stewart's I Don't Want To Talk About It, and said he chose the song because his aunt Missy Teka, Prince Tui Teka's wife, had sung it and he had always loved her version of it. "She's awesome, so I thought it was a really good choice for a song."
Friday night's grand final, involving 10 finalists in a two-hour sing off, was filmed live at Auckland's Logan Campbell Centre before a full-house audience.
