The newly restored Hawera Water Tower will be officially reopened in spectacular style on Saturday, October 2.
A "world class" laser light show, which would be seen from miles around, would be the main feature of the opening ceremony, South Taranaki District Council events coordinator Daniel Keighley said.
The show's imagery was
based on the history and reason for the tower.
The images included fire to signify the fires in the town between 1884 and 1912, family to signify the cohesion and determination of the district, and birds to signify the district was now free from the worry of a lack of water. After the show finishes the laser lights would sweep the sky and tower until midnight.
Entertainment would start at 6.30pm with performances by local artists.
At 8pm the local repertory would perform their rendition of the original tower opening in January 1914, Mr Keighley said.
The tower has been closed since March 2000, when large chunks of concrete fell off.
It has been restored at a cost of $1.1 million, during which about 14 cubic metres of the tower was replaced.
