Arts society contributors put winter wonders on show for exhibition

Dawn McCormick' eyesight may not be as good as it once was but that does not stop her from painting.

Her contribution to the Winter exhibition is a painting of Knights Pt on the West Coast.

McCormick said she achieved the contrasts and textures in her work by using a palette brush.

"My sight isn't good enough for fine brush work now," she says.

"I'm approaching my 92nd birthday and although I can't paint like I used to, I still enjoy it and I believe in keeping busy."

The group exhibition includes work by 13 members of Wanganui Arts Society and the subjects range from an embroidered snowy owl by Doreen Cotgrove to a painted Siberian Tiger by Martin Smith.

The vistas depicted in scenic works will take visitors from Whangaehu Gorge all the way to a winter's day in Prague.

96-year-old Hilde Sutton's contributions are sketches of Tudor castles and houses she visited on a trip to England last year.

The Winter exhibition will run until July 9 at Cooks Gallery, Trafalgar Pl.

Open Saturday 9am-1pm Monday and Tuesday 10am-12pm.
