Public toilets will be up and flushing by summer in Mangaweka.
The Rangitikei District Council will be building the toilets just south of the iconic DC3 plane at Mangaweka.
The issue of public toilets in the area has come in response to Papa Cliff Cafe owner Sharon Grayson's written complaint to the council about non-paying people using the cafe toilets and rubbish facilities.
Grayson had written to the council saying that despite the ''huge cost'' to her business it would be inhuman and a bad look for Mangaweka if she turned away travellers who needed a pit stop on their journey.
Mayor Andy Watson said he had used the cafe's facilities himself, to go with a cup of coffee or a bite to eat.
"I value it as a stopping off point but I've seen people using it just for the toilets,''he said.
The location of the planned toilets will be just slightly south to almost opposite Mangaweka's iconic DC3 aeroplane structure, where some NZ Transport Agency-owned land was available.
The agency had given its approval for the toilets to go ahead.
