Trying to give your mates a chuckle is not a good excuse to break traffic laws, a young man learned last week.
Darby Judd was driving with four passengers in Castlecliff when he started doing skids and leaving black tyremarks on the road.
When police spoke to him, Judd told them there was nothing malicious in his actions and he was "just trying to give his mates a bit of a chuckle," police prosecutor Sergeant Rachel Willemsen said.
Judd pleaded guilty in the Whanganui District Court to driving with sustained loss of traction. Defence lawyer Jamie Waugh said Judd had travelled from New Plymouth with his mother for the court appearance.
Judge David Cameron fined Judd $350 and $130 court costs.
