Rotorua mountainbike aficionado Gabby Molloy has made the squad to take on the World Mountainbike Championships in Switzerland.
Molloy, who owns the MTB Skills Clinics, is a late addition to the team, which was formally announced yesterday. She will compete in the downhill and has been overseas racing for the past
two months.
Cross-country rider Mike Northcott, the highest finishing New Zealander at last year's world champs, has been dropped.
The championships will be in Champery, Switzerland, between August 30 and September 4.
The 30-strong team covers the three UCI categories of Under 19, Under 23 and Elite in cross-country, downhill and four cross disciplines.
Leading the cross-country contingent is Beijing Olympian Rosara Joseph. It contains a number of athletes making a name on the world stage, including Whakatane's Karen Hanlen, the XTERRA New Zealand champion.
Rotorua riders in the team are Nigel McDowell, Dirk Peters, Sam Shaw, Carl Jones, Katie O'Neill and Samara Sheppard.
The downhill part of the team is led by a quartet of elite athletes who have been regular World Cup podium and top 10 performers this year - Brook MacDonald, Sam Blenkinsop, Cam Cole and Justin Leov, who will be backed by an exciting group of junior athletes.
The full team assemble in Italy to lead into the world championships through the final World Cup series event - in Val di Sole, Italy, on August 20-21.
