Tauranga Boys College bowed out of the Gillette Cup when they were beaten by one of the heavyweights of secondary schools cricket in recent years.
They needed to defeat Hamilton Boys High in the Northern Districts' final, to progress to the finals next month.
After losing the toss, Tauranga bowled first and
dismissed Hamilton for 229. Josh Dwight was the best of the Tauranga bowlers, finishing with three for 41.
Tauranga got away to a flyer in reply, reaching 91 without loss. Sean McCarthy (44) and Elliott Timoti (43) gave their side an outstanding start.
However the Hamilton bowlers grabbed the ascendancy, with their three off-spinners strangling the Tauranga batting and their finals dream ended at 147.
Owen Delany Park in Taupo was a sea of white last Sunday, when the annual Bay of Plenty age group battle for the Pongokawa Cup was held.
Coastlands emerged victorious in the Senior Secondary School game and the two Junior Secondary fixtures, while Lakeland took out both primary matches.
